I may be wrong, but the slang, "Tuffies", may point to a different critter depending on what people call things.

What are tuffies? Fathead minnows. I wonder if it was a ph issue. The larger fish would be less likely to croak,no? At the least they could go deeper. Throw in god only knows what was in the runoff from all that rain in that short of a time.

I expected that one to die. I cleaned the container thoroughly, it had nothing in it but water from their bag and about a third of it room temp from the tap.

I was getting them used to the water in that. I left the room for barely a half hour. Slows down their metabolism so the oxygen lasts longer. Oxygen depletion is the main reason they die in the bucket.

Sw mn. The minnow bucket may hold a gallon of water. Or mine any way. If u put 12 minnows in there most will make it to the lake but if u put in there the will start dying in ten minutes.

I use a bubbler that uses 2 d batterys and will run for three days in a five gallon bucket with 4 gallon of water on it with about minnows Every day I change the water and may lose one or two in a weekend.

You only have to worrie about ammonia if the water gets cloudy or you don't clean out the dead ones. But that can take a day or more just depends on how many minnows per gallon of water. Iron Archer. The ones I've seen have been very quick deaths, because every fish will look really active and healthy, then one will start to become lethargic, and an hour later, dead.

What could it be? I've gotten the ammonia ppm down to 0 with the daily water changes, but the fish keep dying. Please help! What size is the tank what the temperature what is the ph gh ammonia nitrite and nitrate how many fish do you have in your tank. Goldlover, many of us longtime fish keepers have repeatedly cautioned you about using methylene blue for undiagnosed conditions.

Blue is a very strong chemical and should not be added to a fish tank except in very rare cases to treat serious documented illness that can not be treated by any other means.

In the case of these fish, as was likely with your own, the daily water changes should be all that is necessary to remove the ammonia from an overstocked tank. Using M Blue is overkill and will likely render these minnows unfit for consumption by the OP's other fish due to the M Blue contaminating the minnows and killing their other fish when the minnows are eaten by them. Please, stop telling everyone to be adding M Blue to their tanks, it is a very serious medication and not to be used without understanding the full ramifications of using it for just anything, especially for unknown illnesses.

If you advise someone to use something like this and their fish all die it will be your fault. Do not answer any questions that you are not positive you are providing a safe and documented answer to. On another post you said your WERE experienced and had ten years experience as a breeder, here you say you are a novice. Which is it, it can't be both. Your continually telling people to use methylene blue for anything and everything sure makes you look like a beginner.

I would suggest you sit back and read these questions and their answers. In time you will learn the proper treatments and can recommend them without endangering someone's fish. How would you like if someone recommended a treatment to your fish and they all died? The problem is that even 25 is overstocking your 30 gallon tank and the resulting toxic water is killing them.

Well there's about 30 left now- a ton have died.
